Woolies

A digital supermarket

Project Overview
Australia’s largest supermarket is preparing to create a digital market place that brings all their brands and 3rd party retailers into one platform.

The challenge was to explore how a platform might operate with their expansive catalogue of products on web, app and in-store experiences.

How we defined the journey’s

In the research phase we went through client interviews, research documents and potential growth areas. Miro was our friend throughout this project, and allowed us to conduct several workshops to help us start to define some service journeys.

Prototyping the journey’s

Weekly shop

One of the main journeys indicated from research was the weekly shop. We wanted to show how this process could be streamlined by generating smart shopping lists for the users recoccuring purchases whilst also showing how we could increase average order value with offers around associated products.

Healthy meal planning

This was a fairly complex journey for the user to create a meal plan for a set period of time, which would then create a shopping list for them. We then showed how the app could be used in store to scan products on their generated shopping list and pay.

Looking after my dog

With the increasing popularity of pet apps like Chewy, we identified an opportunity for users to create a profile for their pets and create reoccuring orders for their food.

Grow a better Australia

Sustainability is one of the main targets Woolies strives for and from research is highly important to users who want to have a streamlined browsing experience of ethically sourced products.

Preparing for my baby

Creating a content hub for expectant mothers, which contains relevant products and articles per trimester. This was a good opportunity to show how ranges from both supermarket and department stores could intermingle within the app.

Back-to-school

This prototype detailed how the app could work where the user has a small family and will be able to browse all the essentials based on their childrens profile including their school, this allowed us to surface relevant uniform type etc.
